How did we do the research

Profuse knowledge of Ms. Keya Seth about aromatherapy guided us to pick the natural constituents that have been praised for centuries for hair follicle nourishment & hair growth. Details of our research

Let us start with some basic yet most important information about hair, the reason of hair fall & balding as it will help you understand the intricacies of our research even better.    

Hair is basically made of a protein named keratin which gives it the characteristic features. Hair grows from a hair follicle rooted on the scalp. Dermal tissue containing a dermal papilla is present at the base of every hair follicle & this dermal papilla contains network of blood vessels that supply oxygen & nutrition to the hair & removes the wastes produced. The dermal papilla is highly sensitive to hormones that affect hair growth.   

The lifecycle of a hair involves three stages,

1. Anagen: A period of active growth that lasts for 2 to 4 years
2. Catagen: The period of break down & change
3. Telogen: The resting phase before resumption of growth, it lasts for 2 to 4 months

On average, a person loose anything between 60 and 100 hairs daily & normally all of which are replaced by new hair. If the hair loss is over 100 per day, it exceeds the replacements, which might result into baldness & thinning. Alopecia, colloquially known as baldness, cannot be considered as a disease but a matter of biological dysfunction.

Culprits behind hair fall & Balding  

DHT

In 95% of all hair loss cases, DHT or Dihydrotestosterone is the major culprit for hair fall & subsequent balding. Testosterone or the male hormone (which is present in both males & females) is converted to DHT by the action of the enzyme 5 alpha reductase.

                              

The DHT thus produced binds to androgenic receptors in hair follicles & this bond triggers cellular processes that force the hair follicles to shrink & shed the normal hair and produce thinner & shorter hair. DHT propels miniaturization of the hair roots & follicles shortening the growth phase of hair & instigating the next hair to grow finer. Sooner or later the miniaturized hair follicles atrophy & die causing permanent hair loss in men.

 

Free radicals
